Who can be an Attorney: Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors
Attorneys will perform a number of tasks/jobs throughout the year. During the year, an attorney will work in an attorney team where they are required to write a bench memo based on the case facts. Attorneys have to familiarize themselves with the facts of the case as well as the cited cases that are listed in the facts packet of a given case. Using their written bench memo, each attorney team will prepare an oral argument that will be presented to other attorneys that represent the Illinois Youth Supreme Court during Springfield. On the last day of Springfield, attorneys will participate in the Judicial Review Process where a passed bill from the Illinois Youth Legislature is debated regarding its Constitutionality. You are given a chance to discover the judicial branch of the government in depth through a mock trial, bench memos, and oral arguments. This role is typically for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
